How do I sign my child up for classes?

It’s easy!  You can register and pay for all Classes and events online.

How old must be child be to register for classes?

Children must be five (5) years old to eighteen (18) years old before or during any program session.

Does it matter where I live to enroll my child in classes?

There are no residency requirements.

Does my child need prior golf experience?

There is no prior golf experience needed.  Our coaches are trained in positive youth development.  That means they are experts in making young people feel comfortable and assure they have a positive, non-intimidating experience.

Is equipment provided or does my child need to bring their own clubs?

Equipment is provided, however children may bring their own clubs.  Please contact us prior to your class if you need to borrow equipment.

When are classes held?

Classes are offered during the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Specific class times and days vary by location.  Our class schedule.

Where are classes held?

Most classes are at our main facility, The Scott Robertson Jr. Golf Academy (3707 Densmore Road, Roanoke, VA).  Classes are also held at other SW Virginia locations, generally Copper Cove -formerly The Westlake- (360 Chestnut Creek Dr, Hardy, VA), and others based on staff availability.

Inclement Weather Policy

Our weather policy varies by program location.  If the program locations offers an indoor space we will have class indoors, if no space is available then the class will be cancelled and rescheduled.  We will notify families by email if class will be cancelled.  Please make sure to check your email.  If you do not hear from us, then consider that class is still on!

During extreme weather conditions (blustery winds, lightening, thunder, flooding, etc.) please don’t attempt to attend classes. Classes will be cancelled and an email, phone call or text will alert everyone that class will be canceled for that day.

What should my child wear?

We encourage children to wear clothes that they are comfortable in when they are attending classes at our First Tee facility – The Scott Robertson Jr. Golf Academy.  However, if participants are meeting at a local golf course instead of First Tee, children are required to wear neat attire including collared shirts (boys shirts tucked inside), shorts, pants, slacks, skorts (girls), golf shoes or sneakers and a hat or visor. No holes, baggie jeans, spandex or gym shorts allowed. Children should be dressed appropriately according to weather conditions

As an adult, how can I get involved with First Tee – Roanoke Valley?

Adults may consider becoming a Volunteer. Please visit our Get Involved page for more information.

  • Parents can assist First Tee – Roanoke Valley Staff in helping to determine the future direction of programming by communicating what participants want to receive from their program.
  • Communicate to fellow parents on the activities of the Chapter (i.e., Emails & Newsletters).
  • Volunteer during check-in time for programming and help in the organization of the Parent-Child Golf Tournament held yearly in September
  • Assist with fundraising and raffle donations
  • Help recruit new participants and parents, who have not previously heard of First Tee.

What is the mission of the First Tee?

First Tee is an international youth character development organization dedicated to the mission of impacting the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf.

My child has special needs. Is your program inclusive?

We accept children with special needs. We respectfully request parents to contact us to discuss their child’s needs.

What if there is an emergency?

In the event of an emergency during which your child needs immediate medical assistance we ask our parents to provide us with an emergency contact during registration.  Please ensure this information is listed so that in case of an emergency we can contact either the parent/guardian or family member.
